Is Dragon Head Manga a work of Literature?

It is a common belief that literature is limited to novels, short stories, poems, and other written works that use extravagant words, which somehow makes them appealing to the readers. But can a manga be considered as a work of literature? The most common definition of literature is a written works that gives a lasting impression. But from my perspective, literature does not have to be confined with words only. As long as a written work has some personal value it can offer its readers, regardless if it is wordy or not, then it is literature. If it provides its readers lasting impressions, different lessons applicable to oneself, or could have an impact on one's life, then truly one must be considered as literature.

With this in mind, is Dragon Head a literary piece? Upon reading the dialogues and scanning the drawings, I am moved by its story. From beginning to end, it continued to amaze me because of its continued twists. It is a sad story with a lot of surprises, giving jabs of reality of our personalities as human beings. Although it is a mere fantasy, its message is crystal clear. It is truly remarkable how the author was able to make this manga something that is more than just a compilation of words and pictures, because it is a literary piece that will make one realize the essence of our own existence.
